چکیده
One of the principal limitations employing a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) for landmine detection is presence clutter, i.e., reflections from surrounding environment, which might interfere with echoes. Clutter presents similar scattering characteristics as typical targets and may significantly raise threshold system. The capability to characterize internal structure buried target provide key unique information develop advanced landmine-clutter discrimination algorithms, considering that components can be univocally associated man-made targets. In this letter, possibility identifying characterizing these contributions GPR signature numerically assessed experimentally validated. simulated response landmine-like shows an generates additional reflection peaks, consequence layered object, field trials corroborate it possible identify delineate their spatial distribution.

Multi-feature Based Detection of Landmines Using Ground Penetrating Radar
In this paper, we present a method for detecting antitank or anti-personnel landmines buried in the ground. A set of data generated by a ground penetrating radar is processed to remove the surface reflection and clutter, yielding signals for possible landmines. In order to detect landmines in the signals, features are computed and compared against a database, which contains those of various lan...
متن کاملFuzzy logic detection of landmines with ground penetrating radar
An automatic landmine detection algorithm using Ground Penetrating Radar is described. The algorithm combines outputs of multiple detection and feature extraction algorithms to generate a single confidence that a landmine is present at a location. The combination is performed using a fuzzy inference system. Results are provided for real data obtained in real-time with the Geo-Centers Vehicle Mo...
متن کاملDetection of Shallowly Buried Landmines from Ground Penetrating Radar Signals
A method for detecting shallowly buried landmines using sequential GPR data is presented. After removing dominant coherent component of ground surface reflection from GPR data, three kinds of target features related to wave correlation, energy ratio, and signal arrival times are extracted. Since the detection problem treated here is reduced to a binary hypothesis test, an approach based on a li...
متن کاملUnderground Utility Analysis and Soil Characterization Using Ground Penetrating Radar
This paper describes modern, non-invasive data acquisition methods of underground utility detection. Basic parameters, methods and their influence on the acquisition speed and data quality are defined. This data can be used for development of complex Geographic Information Systems. The aim of this paper is to show data extraction from the hyperbolic reflection on the radargram. These data are u...
متن کاملImaging the structure of cave ice by ground-penetrating radar
Several caves in high elevated alpine regions host up to several meters thick ice. The age of the ice may exceed some hundreds or thousands of years. However, structure, formation and development of the ice are not fully understood and are subject to relatively recent investigation. The application of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) enables to determine thickness, volume, basal and internal stru...
